Seed Tips

TifBlair Centipede Seed Planting

Why does it matter how late in the season I plant TifBlair Centipede seed?

Any grass seed needs proper soil termperature and moisture conditions to germinate and grow.  If seed is planted too late in your growing season, even if it germinates it might not have sufficient time to become hardy enough to survive fall and winter conditions.

When is it too late to plant TifBlair Centipede seed?

Your latest summer or fall TifBlair Centipede seed planting date is best determined by your growth zone.  If you plant TifBlair Centipede seed outside of these dates, germination and results may be unsatisfactory or fail.  The standard guideline is to plant TifBlair Centipede seed a MINIMUM of 90 days before you expect the first frost in the fall AND at a minimum of 90 days before daytime highs fall below the 70 degree fahrenheit level.

If I buy TifBlair Centipede seed now or already have, can I store it until later?

Seed purchased in the fall or winter may be stored until spring.  Seed must be stored indoors at temperatures from 68 degrees to 75 degrees fahrenheit and out of direct light or sunlight.  Seed stored in your car or truck, outdoor shed or other unconditioned storage may not germinate and will not establish as expected.
